Supporting Expats: How a Health Coach Can Help You Feel More at Home in a New Country
Although I don’t only work with expats,
it’s an area I know well and there’s a lot in the expat experience that applies
to anyone going through a big life change. Because when your life feels like
it’s been turned upside down it’s easy to lose sight of what you need to feel
like you again.
That’s where health coaching comes in.
What Makes Expat Life So Challenging?
When you move abroad, you’re not just getting used to a new
postcode - you’re also leaving behind your go-to people, your daily routines
and the familiar bits of life you didn’t even realise were keeping you
grounded.
Sometimes it’s not just you making the move. Maybe your
partner's job brought you overseas or you're trying to help your kids settle
into a new school. Everyone’s trying to adjust, often at a different pace and
that can create a lot of friction or just general overwhelm. And even if you’re feeling
up for the adventure your family might not be on the same page.
In my experience that disconnect can really affect how
smoothly the whole transition goes. It’s not just about how you’re doing in
your new job - it’s about how settled your whole life feels. When one piece is
off-balance it can ripple into everything else.
How a Health Coach Can Make a Difference
As a health coach I help people feel more grounded during
big transitions - like moving abroad - by focusing on their physical, emotional
and mental wellbeing. It’s easy to let your own needs slide when there’s so
much going on around you, but looking after yourself is what makes all the
other moving parts work more smoothly.
Here are a few areas where I help clients get back on track:
Physical Health
New climate, different foods, routines all over the place - it’s no wonder your
energy might take a hit. I help clients stay active, find movement that fits
their new lifestyle and build habits that support them long-term.
Emotional Wellbeing
Feeling disconnected or homesick is totally normal. I offer a space to talk
through what’s going on, figure out what you can control and help shift your
mindset to feel more resilient and in charge.
Practical Strategies
From sorting a new morning routine to tackling jet lag or time zone fatigue, I
help you create small, doable changes that help you feel more in control even
when everything else feels up in the air.
Health Coaching vs Life Coaching - What’s the Difference?
This is a question I get quite often and it’s a good one.
Life coaching tends to zoom out and look at the big picture - career,
relationships, purpose. Health coaching zooms in on the foundations - your
body, your habits, your emotional energy.
Because here’s the thing - if you’re not feeling good in
yourself it’s really hard to show up for anything else. So
before setting big life goals I help clients feel strong, rested and balanced.
From there it’s much easier to tackle the other stuff.
My Role as a Coach
Having lived in different countries myself I understand how
jarring a move can be - even when it’s something you wanted. As a coach I offer
support that’s grounded, practical and personal. Whether you need help finding
a new rhythm, managing the emotional toll of being far from home or just
figuring out how to feel more like yourself again, I’m here
for that.
Moving abroad is a big deal but it doesn’t have to leave you
feeling adrift. With the right support it can be a launchpad for growth,
confidence and renewed energy.
If that sounds like something you need feel free to reach
out - I’d love to support you in your next chapter.
